ACTIVITIES OF SOCIETY. * TROUT SUPPLY QUESTION. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWM CORRESPONDENT. 1 TAURANGA, Saturday. Tbo annual meeting of the Tauranga Acclimatisation Society was held last even' i»gThe president's report stated that 95 pheasants were liberated last year and the prospects for the game shooting season are fairly good. Unfortunately the department was unable to supply any trout fry for stocking this season, so no stock ing had been done. In future the society would bo well advised to persevere with the stocking of yearlings instead of fry. The firiit experiment in this direction was a distinct success and the pioneers of trout fishing iyi the district are strongly in favour of yearling sfock>»g- „ There was still a good stock of trout in the Omariawa River, and two local anglers caught 15 its one day recently. The president suggested that the first hatch of yearlings should be put into the dam at McLaren's Falls. Tbo balance-sheet showed that cash in bank amounted to £497 and the society's freehold property was valued at £4O. Last year the sum of £145 was spent in the purchase of pheasants. Mr. J. A,' McKenzie, who has been president of Ibe society for 32 years, was unanimously re-elected. Other officers were elected as follows: —Vice-presidents, Messrs. A. Brown, T, 11, Hall and A. J. Sladden; cosincil, Messrs. J. Tanner, A. J. Knife, W F. Sinclair, A. H. Hardy, B. Sladden, J. Periberton, A. G. Failwell, V. Barmatyne, A. €. O'Neill; auditor. Mr. W. J. Baigent. Mr. J. A, McKenzie was wnammonsly elected a life member. A meeting of the council v/as held after the annual meeting. Several members spoke in favour of liberating- opossum* in the bach countr/ and it *» def-ided to circulate a pet itiotj 1 «?il;b a view to rnafaing application to the Government for the liberation of opossum*. The secreistry reported that 70 pb«»«ant» had been ordered from a li«wl« hi Napier.
