appeal to prime minister. INVESTIGATION OF POSITION. Tho Prime Minister will look into the position of unemployment in Auckland immediately with a view to seeing what can be done, according to a telegram received from Mr. Coatea by Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P. for Auckland .West, on Saturday. Mr. Savage sent the following telegram to the Prime Minister on Saturday : He unemployment. Position shows no sign of improvement. Secretary unemployed has communicated with public bodies and others throughout Auckland province without much success. Scores of men are sleeping out and going without sufficient food. In view o!' approaching winter and large ;aumber, including children, who are already in distress, will you make special effort to relieve position ? The Prime Minister replied as follows: Yout telegram received, and representations regarding unemployment duly noted. Am looking into position- immediately, with a view to seeing what can bo done. The total number of unemployed: men on the register of the Auckland Labour Bureau on Saturday was 531, compared with 571 for the previous week. Of these 408 were classed a3 fit for heavy work and 123 for light employment. During tho week 60 men were placed in employment.
