The figures of the dairy division of the Department of Agriculture issued yesterday Show that the amount of salted butter graded for March was 7195 tons and of unsalted 305 tons, a total of 7500 tons, compared with 6175 tons of salted and 154 tons of unsalted, a total of <3539 tons, for March, 1926, an increase of 18.3 per cent. For the eight months ended March, 1927, the respective quantities were 59,244 tons of salted and 2011 tons of unsalted, a total of 61,255 tons, compared with 52,318 tons and 2727 tons, a total of 55,045 tons, for the corresponding period of the proceding season, an increases of 11.3 per cent. The cheese graded for last month comprised 6241 tons of white and 3012 tons of coloured, a total of 9253 tons, compared with 5816 tons of white and 3310 tons of coloured, a total of 9126 tons, for March, 1926, an increase of 1.4 per cent. The quantities for the eight months ended March, 1927, were: White, 42,458 tons; coloured, 21,207 tons; total, 63,665 tons, compared with 39,608 tons of white and 22,225 tons of coloured, a total of 61,833 tons, for the corresponding period of the preceding season, an increase of 2.9 per cent. These figures show an increase of '8.4 per cent, butter-fat • production for the eight months, compared with the, corresponding period of the 1925-26 season. Stocks held in the various grading ports at March 31, 1927, were 13,960 tons of butter and 14,397 tons of cheese, compared with 11,129 tons of butter and 13,635 tons of cheese held on March 51, 1926. ■ DAIRY PRODUCE PRICES. i. . Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from London, dated April 7:— Butter. —The market is steady at present prices. New Zealand butter, exceptional, salted, 1545; fiinest New Zealand, 150s to 1525; Danish, 182s to 184s; Australian, finest salted, 150s to 151s; Australian, finest unsalted, 156s to 158s; Australian, finest, exceptional, salted, 1545.

Cheese.—The market is steady at present prices. New Zealand, 75s to 765; Canadian, white and coloured, 90s to 945. Mr. W. W. Bowker ha« received the following cablegram from London, dated April 7:— ' Butter.—Tho market is steady. Sales this week, 150s to 1545. Allotments are not quite, cleared. Cheese.—The market is firm. The New Zealand High Commissioner, Sir James Parr, visited an excellent exhibition of New Zealand prize lambs at Curnicks, Marylebone, the largest retail shop in London. There were 150 carcases from the Longburn works of the Wellington Meat Export Company and the Hawke's Bay Company. Experts said they had not seen such symmetrical and excellent lamb for three years. MARKET REPORTS. FRUIT AND PRODUCE PRICES. Although there were fairly plentiful supplies of fruit at the Auckland City Markets yesterday, oranges and bananas came forward in only small lots, and brought high prices. The shortage is clue to the non-arrival of Sydney and Island boats. There was a sharp rise from 28s to 30s in the price of bananas yesterday. American oranges are now bringing 40s a case, a prico which clearly indicates the restricted quantities available. Quinces will soon be finished and yesterday the demand was well maintained. Cox's Orange Pippin apples are still being widely sought, although supplies are falling off. On the other hand, pears appear to be glutting the market, for prices for most grades decreased somewhat at yesterday's sales. Louis Bon, a popular eating variety, realised from 7s to 10s a case, Is less than recent quotations. Wet weather is having a disastrous effect on figs. The rain causes them to shrivel up quickly, and consequently prices are easing. frigs in fairly goodl condition can now be had as cheaply as Is 6d a case. The vegetable market was again very heaviiy supplied, and most prices compared favourably with late rates. The market was glutted .with kumaras and cabbage, which sold at 3si 9d and 3s 6d a bag and sack respectively. Green peas and beans are not so plentiful. A further rise in the price of eggs occurred, hen now being quoted at 3s and duck at 3s. The demand is keen from all quarters.^ In the poultry' -market there was good inquiry for birds of both light and heavy breeds, but prices fell slightly. Prime cockerels of heavy breeds sold at 7s 3d each, lighter birds fetching ss. Fat roosters reaped 3s 9d, smaller bringing 2s 6d. The following prices were realised:— FRUIT.
