THAMES PASSENGER TAX.
TRAVELLERS BY STEAMER. ABOLITION NOT ENTERTAINED. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 THAMES, Thursday, A request that the passenger tax of one shilling over the Burke Street Wharf be abolished was preferred by the Northern Steamship Company at a meeting of the Thames Harbour Board last evening. The company, said it was meeting strong competition from the railway and motor-cars, and the request had been made with a view to preserving the ser- , vice for the people of Thames. The chairman said the company and not the board should reduce its charges. He moved that the proposal be not entertained, and this was carried.
