CONTROL OF LEAGUE.

PLACE OF HEADQUARTERS. SUGGESTED CHANGE DEFEATED. The question whether it would be ill the best interests of the game to femove the headquarters of the New Zealand League Football Council to the South Island was discussed at the annual meeting of delegates to the 2sew Zealand. Council last evening. The matter was introduced by the follow ing remit from the CanterDury Rugby League; " That the headquarters of the l\ew Zealand Council be removed to the South Island." bpeaking to the remit. Mr. E. L. Mclveon (Canterbury) said' a change-in the government of the code was necessary, and in the South Island they had a body ol men who were quite capable of controlling the future destinies of the game. It was considered in the South that Auckland was the New Zealand League, and that a feeling of bias existed among the present personnel of the council. . The League ganj£ in Auckland was firmly established, and Mr. McKeon, attributed its success to the fact that the headquarters of the gamo was in Auckland. '"Our fisrht is not to be a bitter one," he continued. " but we in the South Island have men capable of managing the code, and there are men in Canterbury who want more Ktatus to push lorward their efforts on behalf of a splendid game. At present, it seems the New Zealand League 1 , has got into a groove. Give the codi? in the South the opportunity of controlling the affairs of League football, and our success m assured." „ , , , Mr. W. Webster (West Coast) seconded the remit. He said there was no parochialism in his district and all worked in the best interests of the game. From his point of view, there would be 110 benefit to the. game by removing the headquarters, but his centre thought so, and he must act accordingly. Mr., J, T. Cooper (Otago) thought the centre should be in Wellington. Otago did not want the headquarters there. Mr. J. Stallworthy opposed the remit. He thought there was not much sincerity behind Mr. McKeon's appeal. To carry 011, finance was. necessary. ■ and Auckland was the place where the profits were made. ■ Mr. W. D. McLean said Mr. McKeon had j, not brought any good reason why the council's headquarters should be removed to the South Island. , It would be injurious at the present time if the council headquarters were removed from Auckland. The chairman, Mr. J. Carlaw. said the I time had not arrived for a removal. motion' was defeated by eight votes to five. Mr. Rhodes, Canterbury deleeatp, voted against the motion and Mr. McKeon requested that his vote should be recorded. I It was pointed out that, no delegate should j have his vote recorded unless all votes were I noted. Mr. Rhodes said hr> did not obiect j to having his vote recorded, ns he had I voted in the best interests of the gamp. DEVONPORT GLOB.
