FERRY SERVICES.
Sir,—lt 1 is interesting ! to rea.d : that ""the ' Devonport Steam : Ferry , Company proposes to embark on additional transport services, and that—apparently—a surplus of plant' and staff is available for the pui'pose. Might I suggest that a portion of this surplus be devoted to relieving •the;,;.<»ngest.ion.. now - existing yMi at least one of their exclusive services, that to Northcote arid Birkenhead. The morn- , ing and evening peak load rushes on that run would benefit considerably by the 5 use of an additional steamer. The remedies for present conditions are, at certain hours, a boat direct to and from each suburb, a better Sunday evening service, and a reduction of the long wait between 6.15' and 7.35 depart from Birkenhead. Passengers for the 7.40 train, the one most used, have a wait after travelling by the 6.15 p.m. ferry, and an additional boat at 7 p.m.—forthwith—would be a much needed improvement. „ J.l. Martin.
