HALL OR PARK AT STANLEY BAY.
:! Sh- —lt was with.: much pleasure that ; j read Mr. G. V. Pcarcc's letter in | your issue of the sth. The hail would; have been finished by now and have been of use to the district, had this association, instead- of wasting four years try,- j ing to get this money, devoted its ener- j gies into a legitimate channel and not I made this barefaced attempt to divert funds' that should be held m trust for : the purpose for which it was collected. | It is a great surprise to the original and main workers for the hall fund to find that Mr. Alclridge, the chairman, should accept a notice of motion hav- ; ing for its object the diverting of, these furids into another channel. In support - ed' its action.' this 'association. is-stating that .it would cost over £2OOO to build the hall arid that a caretaker would Jriava to be employed. I submit that the money collected' for hall with accumulated interest would very nearly, if not quite, cover the, Cost of' the Aldridge's quibble as to resolution not having been passed is childish; it cannot be denied that the notice of motion was carried, arid if that does' not show the attitude being taken up I would to know what does. I hold that the action of this association is a direct menace to all collections made from the public in support of charities or other objects, as there would be no guarantee that they, the public, were not being exploited.
