FAMILY ALLOWANCES.
APPLICATIONS FOR GRANTS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 WELLINGTON. Thursday. The Family Allowances Act, passed last session, has been in operation for a week, and a number of applications for assistance have been received by the Pensions Department. These applications are being considered by the department, and in approved cases the first payments will bo made later in the month.
