THE PORT OF PATEA.
FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —I'RESS ASSOCIATION.] WANGANUI, Monday. The Patea Harbour Board celebrated its 50th anniversary on March 2, and to commemorate the event a jubilee luncheon was held to-day. Mr. A. T. Christensen, chairman of the board, presided over a large attendance. The chairman' said the Inrst meeting of the board took place ori March 2, 1877. Since its formation the port had made considerable progress in spile of many difficulties. As indicative of the steady growth of trade through the port it was of interest to note that in 1833 the exports were valued at about £BO,OOO. The tonnage export for 1925 totalled 21,819, the greater proportion being cheese, although butter and approximate value of the whole was meat contributed a good percentage. The £2,166,700. It was stated that the Patea Harbour Board was three years older than the Wellington J&jard.
