NOTED CLIMBING FEAT.
MOUNT ROLLESTOM! SUMMIT. FIRST WOMAN TO REACH TOP. [BY TELEGKAHH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCHUKCH, Monday. For the first time a woman has reached the summit of Mount Bolleston. She is Miss Betty Petre, of St. Albans, and she accomplished the feat yesterday in company with Messfs. W. Fraser and YV. Calwell, both of whom are experienced alpinists who have been on the mountain top before. Miss Petre had been at Arthur's Pass for several v/eeks, waiting the chance for suitable climbing conditions. The weather had been rough i'or some time, heavy snow ialling. Her performance in climbing at this late period of the season such a difficult mountain, which - has foiled hundiVsds of good climbers, is remarkable. T.he back and highest peak of Mount Rtolleston, which rises from the Crow glacier, is precipitous rock.
