BUILDING SMALL HOMES.
WORK OF SUTTON TRUSTEES. Three thousand homes have been built in various parts of England in terms of the will of William Richard Sutton, who left his estate in the hands of trustees directing them to e buy sites in populous places in England and build upon them small modern houses to bo let at low rents to the poorer classes. The tenants of these houses are selected with great care by the trustees, who make inquiries about the applicants to ensure that the houses are let to deserving cases. Preference is given to those who have a number of small children and a limited income. The trust recently undertook the erection ot 179 homes on an estate in Manchester. Three types of houses are being built: a house with a parlour, kitchen, scullery, larder, coal place, small staircase hall, three,, bedrooms, and a bathroom ; a rather smaller house with a kitchen used as a living room,, instead of a parlour, and the third type, which is the smallest, has two bedrooms and no parlour. Tho houses are built in blocks of six and four, and some are semi-detached.
