BURGLARIES IN CITY.

TWO WEEK-END ROBBERIES. y". AN IMPROMPTU SUPPER. * MENU OF BISCUITS AND WINE. Two city premises were broken into in the course of the week-end, although in neither case did the thieves secure" much for their pains. Burglars who entered the premises of Messrs. L. Marks and Company, Chancery Lane, besides taking about £5 or £6 in cash, and also two leather bags valued at about £7, also made themselves an impromptu supper. Entrance was gained through a door at the rear of the workshop. The intruders made a thorough search of the outer office and that of the manager. The former was found in a very untidy state, papers and files having been thrown over the flobr. A registered letter, which contained several «notes, fortunately escaped their notice. The manager's desk had been ransacked and the money which was taken had been removed from a tin in one of the drawers. Several expensive furs had been in the office on the Friday evening, but these had been locked up. Two bags were missing. A lucky "find" by the burglars was a bottle of wine which had been in the office for about 10 years. With this and several biscuits kept in the office for the staff's morning tea, they evidently repaired to the rear of the shop and had supper. The premises of A. and T. Burt, Ltd., of Customs Street West, were entered and the sum of £3 10s in cash and an electric torch and a watch were stolen. The burglars broke open the back door of the workshop and took the money from a rear office. All money on the premises is usually taken to the strong room every night, but for some reason this had not been done on the Saturday. The burglars turned their attention to the personal belongings of the employees but the torch and watch were all that rewarded their efforts. An unsuccessful attempt had been made to enter the main warehouse, which is separated from the rear portion by strong doors.
