OBITUARY.

• MRS. ELIZA THORNE. The death of another old resident of Auckland, Mrs. Eliza Thorne, of Islington Road, Ponsonby, occurred yesterday. Mrs. Thorne, who was 81 years of age, came to Auckland from Worcestershire, England, with her husband, Mr. Charles Brockway Thorne, in the ship Dunedin 54 years ago and she had lived in Auckland ever since. She wiis one of the foundation members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and took an active part in it until about eight years ago. Mr Thorne predeceased his wife four years ago. Mrs. Thorne had thirteen children, eight of whom survive her. They are Mrs. W. Cassin (Auckland), Sister Norhert (St. Mary's Convent, Auckland), Mrs. M. Reardon (Auckland)', Mrs. J. Hancock (Auckland) and Messrs. A. T. H. Thorne (Auckland), Charles Thorne (Auckland) and W. Thorno (Onehunga). MRS. J. MORRISON. The death has occurred at the age of 84 years of Mrs. Sarah Morrison, widow of the late Mr. John Morrison, who as a mine-manager and a farmer was wellknown in the Thames district. The second daughter of Captain Ritchie, Mrs. Morrison was born and educated in the village of Ballywater, near Belfast, where she married Mr. Morrison. Four years after the maz-riage she and her husband, with their two boys, Hugh and Robert, sailed for New Zealand in the ship Maori, arriving on Christmas Day, 1868. In 1870 her husband took up land at Puriri, and was connected with the Thames district all his life. Of members of the family, Messrs. Hugh, Robert, John William, Malcolm, and Ritchie are farmers of Hikutaia, while the surviving daughters are Mrs. G. Davis, of Arapuni, and Mrs. S. McMahon, of Auckland. MR. FREDERICK SAMPSON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WELLINGTON, Monday. Mr. Frederick Sampson, senior member of the General Assembly library staff, died on Saturday. He had been associated with the institution for over 50 years. Born in Auckland in 1856, Mr. Sampson came to Wellington in 1865. MR. WILLIAM ARNOTT. [BY TELEGRAPH.-—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GREYMOUTH. Monday. Mr. William Arnott, Greymouth's eldest resident, has died, aged 98. He arrived on the West Coast in 1865, and was a builder by occupation. He fought in the Crimean War.
