THE HAUGHTY OFFICIAL.
ALOOF POST OFFICE CLERKS. Those who have suffered from the haughtiness of the post office counter clerk will be surprised to know thataccording to their spokesman at a recent inquiry at the London General Post Office—" a good deaF of public hostility found expression at the counter." This was said to be due to the fact that the post office has a monopoly. "The good counter clerk," it was further stated, "is always suspicious of the precocious office boy who comes in with his calculations and tells the clerk just how much ho should charge. The clerk prefers to make his own calculations."
