CONSERVATION OF FUEL.

Sir, —Re the report oft he Gas Institute of New Zealand, and the need for conservation of our fuel resources, I was very . pleased to see that much valuable data had been collected and that it would be possible before long to issue a report. I feel sure the report will be encouraging when issued and that the waste of the present time will be stopped. With the . advent of .pulverisation and modern machinery I feel that this country is very fortunate as our wealth in low grade coals will be enormous. Everyone at tlie present time talks hydro-electricity schemes, and I have only met one engineer iry to the present time who supported pulverisation of our low grade coals as a means of power. I am of opinion, after studying some papers on this new system, that our hydro schemes are not what they might, have been, and that the using of our lignites would have compared more than favourably with the big schemes at present in operation. I sincerely hope that our Department of Scientific and Industrial Research is watching the great strides made in England in this respect, and that some scheme will be proposed whereby our own wealth will be more than trebled, plus a saving of fuel, greater efficiency and far less cost. Interested.
