MAIL SERVICE REFUSED. COMMUNICATION WITH ROTORUA [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA, Tuesday. A meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held last night. The Hon. W. Nosworthv, in replying to a request for the establishment of a daily mail service between Tauranga and Matamata, via Kaimai, said the request could not be agreed to, and stated it was expected that by the end of 1927 Tauranga would have rail connection with the main North Island lines. The secretary of tho Rotorua Chamber of Commerce stated that the Rotorua chamber heartily desired to co-operate in any movement that would tend to hasten the completion of better road communication between Tauranga and Rotorua, and that a committee from the Rotorua cliamber would meet the Tauranga delegates in March. A deputation reported having waited o:i the Borough Council in regard to the question of a night watchman, and the council had decided to consider the question after the chamber made a canvass of the town. It was decided that representations be made to the Matamata County Council and the District Highways Council urging that improvements be effected to the section of the Kaimai Road within Matamata County. A remit will be submitted to the Bay of Plenty Development League urging that a stud stock farm be established in the district. Mr. F. N. Christian said the Public Works Department was carrying out valuable work on the Ake Ake Road. The deviation of the Mangapouri Gorge was almost completed, and the bridge was finished. In the near future there would be a great improvement in the shorter route between Tauranga and Rotorua.
