TWO .MORE RACES WON. AUCKLAND AND HAWKE'S BAY. [by telegraphs-own correspondent.] LYTTELTON, Tuesday. The third-race in the Cornwell Cup contest was held this morning. The Wellington crew in Gadfly came in first, but* were disqualified for touching the Church Bay buoy on the first round. The race was awarded to the second crew, Auckland, thus giving Auckland their second win,. The course was a triangular one. Before the race started tho judges waited for tho wind which later came away a light northerly. .' The boats left the line in the following order Wellington, Otago, Christchurch, Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Lyttelton, Southland. On tho run up to the first mark Otago passed Wellington and the 'Auckland crew also overhauled Wellington. The wind varied considerably and prevented spinnakers being carried. The- boats were widely scattered on rounding the Church Bay buoy. Auckland overhauled Otago on tho run across to the pier buoy. The wind was tricky. Wellington and Auckland, worked to ,wiudward of Otago. The order at the end of the first round was Wellington, Auckland, Otago", Hawke's Bay, Lyttelton, Christchurch, Southland. The wind lightened on the second round and Gadfly established a big lead. On tho beat from Church Bay Hawke's Bay worked out to windward of Otago and overhauled Auckland. The order at the eid of the. second round was:—Wellington, Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Christchurch, Otago, Lyttelton, Southland. On the run up Otago overhauled Christchurch. The Christchurch skipper accidentally dislodged his tiller and lost control of his boat for a few moments. The remainder of the race was in a fresh breeze. Hawke's Bay overhauled Auckland and Lyttelton displaced Otago. The finish was as follows: Auckland 1 Hawke's Bay . . ... ..2 Christchurch . .. .. 3 Lyttelton . . .. . . 4 Otago . . s .5 Southland retired and Wellington was disqualified. Gadfly' 3 Fourth Win. The fourth race was sailed this afternoon and for the fourth time Gadfly crossed tho finishing line " first. Her superior speed makes it almost a certainty that whichever crew draws this boat must win. On this occasion it? was the Hawke's Bay crew that secured the win. The draw was as follows Auckland, Kai Iwi; Lyttelton, Wetu; Hawke's Bay, Gadfly; Wellington, Wee, May; Christchurch. Sea Pearl; Otago, Comet; Southland, Winsome. The race was sailed over a win ward and leeward course in lull sail in a northeaster, with a choppy sea. The boats were sent away in the following order;— Lyttelton, Wellington, Christchurch, Southland, Hawke's Bay, Otago. On the beat down to the Ripa Island buoy Hawke's Bay worked out to the weather position and had a good lead. The boats opened out in crossing the harbour. The turn at tho Ripa Island mark was as follows Hawke's Bay, Southland, Auckland, Lyttelton, Christchurch, Wellington, Otago. A Big Lead Established. On the run before the wind Hawke's Bay in Gadfly established a big lead from the remainder of the fleet, Southland being nearest and the other boats stretched out over a long distance. Tho Upper Harbour mark was turned as followsHawke's Bay, Southland, Auckland, Lyttelton, Christchurch, Wellington. Otago. There was no change in the positions of the fleet on the beat back to the Ripa Island mark, which was rounded in the same order as the top mark. Wellington and Otago retired at this stage.
