FAT STOCK MARKET.

WEEKLY WESTFIELD SALE. BEEF PRICES MAINTAINED. DECLINE IN PIG VALUES. An average yarding of beef at the Westfield fat stock sale yesterday met with a steady demand and values were maintained at late rates, with a slight firming tendency toward the close, There was little alteration in the number of sheep penned and prices were on a par with those made a week ago. A line of extra prime heavy wethers sold on account of Mr. M. Harding, Mount Wellington, topped the market at 275. Prime quality lambs sold .well at late rates, but for unfinished the market eased somewhat.

Calves were again forward in large numbers and the market remained at the lower level recorded last week. An extra choice line of runners from Rotovna made ,87s.

A large yarding of pigs met a dull market and prices were not maintained at the advance recorded last week.

CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday.

At tho Adding-ton market to-day thoro was an exceptionally heavy entry of store sheep and Jambs, and average pennings of fat cattle, fat lambs and fat sheep. Tho store sheep were lower in value, but the rat stock was quite up to prices of last week. Beei and fat lambs were a shade better. Thero was a very large entry of store sheep, and nearly all the available accommodation was filled Drafts were forward from as far North as Hicks Bay and from Marlborough Sounds, Nelson, the West Coast and the Chatham Inlands. Tiler© -wore a good many lota of Banks Peninsula lamba and ewes from various parts of Canterbury and Otago. On account of the continued spell of dry weather buyers were not propared to purchase freely, and prices generally were lower than last week. Lambs were down by a shilling a head and all classes of ewes were easier by Is to Is 6d a head. Aged and low-conditioned were most difficult to quit. Thero were numerous passings.
