STOCKS AND SHARES.

AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE. MORE BUSINESS PASSING. Business was brighter on the Auckland sharemarket yesterday. In Government securities War Loans, the 1938 issue, had sale at £96 12s 6d, against £96 15s a fortnight ago. More were available at £96 15s, buyers offering £96 ss. In local body securities Auckland City debentures, the 5£ per cents, maturing in 1940, changed hands at £97, more being wanted at £96 10s. In banks Nationals of Australasia again sold at £lB 7s. Late offers of £lB 5s met with no response. Buyers of New South Wales again offered £49, without discovering sellers. Holcffrs of New Zealand were asking 60s, an advance of 3d, but buyers were steady at 59s 6d. In insurance South British were done at 56s 3d, equal to last week's figure, at which more were available. Late buyers offered 55s 9d. New Zealands were quoted ex div. at 36s 6d and 36s 9d. In gas Aucklands sold at 235, buyers closing at 22s lOd, sellers 235. In shipping Northern Steamships were done at 13s 3d, against 13's 6d last week. Late offers of 13s Id were met by quotations of 13s 6d. In miscellaneous Lewis R. Eadys 7 per cent.,B pref. had sale at 20s 3d, the current figure. Wilsons Cement sold at 36s 3d, more being wanted at 365, sellers 36s 9d. There was a little more interest in mining, Alburnias selling at 3s Bd, Kawaraus at 3s 6d and New Waiotahis at Is Id.
