CONTEST AT TE AWAMUTU. An inter-club tennis match was played at the Victoria Park courts between Te Awamutu B grade players and Te Kahu. Following are the results, Te Awamutu players being mentioned Jfirst;— Men's Singles.—Walsh beat Sutton, 9—o; McCullum beat Eedgate, 9—l; Shepherd beat Griggs. 9—B; M. Wilson beat Bowler, 9—6; Taylor beat Thompson. 9 —l. Ladies' Singles.—Miss Walter beat Miss Sutton, 7—5; Miss Lord beat Miss Ohlson, 7—4; Miss Barr beat Mrs. Sutton, 7—3; Miss Houston beat Misa M., Flay, 7—l; Mrs. Bryant beat Miss Thompson, 7—6. Men's Doubles.—Walsh and McCullum beat Sutton and Redgate, 9—4; Shepherd and Wilson beat Griggs and Bowler, 9—ti. Ladies' Doubles.—Misses Lord and Walter lost to Misses Sutton and Ohlson, 6—'7; Misses Houston and Barr beat Mrs. Sutton and Miss Flay, 7—l. Combined Doubles.—Walsh and Miss Walter beat Sutton and Miss Sutton, 9 —o; McCullum and Miss Lord beat Redgate and Miss Ohlson, 9—7; Shepherd and Miss Barr beat Griggs and Mrs. Sutton, 9—G; Wilson and Miss Houston lost to Bowler and Miss Flay, B—9;8 —9; Taylor and Mrs. Bryant beat Thompson and Misa Thompson, 9-5.
Totals.—Te Awamutu, 17; Te Rahu. 2. Although the advantage of sets was distinctly in favour of _ the home, team, the games were not one-sided and the Te Awamutu players had to bid solidly for their wins.
