AGRICULTURAL SHOWS.

THE HELENSiVILLE FIXTURE, A RECORD ATTENDANCE. GOVERNOR-GENERAL PRESENT. The twenty-eighth annual show of the Helensvillo Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held at Helensvillo on Saturday, was one of the most successful of the society's fixtures. There was a record attendance and the gate receipts amounted to £159. The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, and Lady Alice Fergusson attended the rhow in tho afternoon. They were welcomed by Mr. James Mackie, chairman of the Helensville Town Board, and Mr. H. Hanson, president of the Agricultural Society. His Excellency inspected the stock and decorated the winners after thfi grand parade. Most of the horse classes .wero well contested and some very fine animals ■were seen. The judge said he considered three or four of the hack horses to be suitable for exhibition in any show. Some fine quality pedigree milking Shorthorns were exhibited and tho champion bull and cow were of & splendid type. The grade Shorthorns wer» also among tho best of their kind. Good entries wero received in tho pedigree Friesiau classes and the females were especially good, the champion cow being an outstanding animal. The Jerseys, as a whole, were of good type and quality and there was close competition. The Ayrshire section was disappointing, as only ono class in sixwas contested. Very few sheep were exhibited arid several classes lapsed through want of entries. Although the pig section was not very strong in entries there wero somo fine exhibits. The judge experienced difficulty in choosing between some of Bolton and Company's entries, which were successful in all tho classes. There were also dairy produce, garden produce and home industries sections, and an imposing array of exhibits was seen in tho society's hall. Considerable interest was taken in a display of school work from the High School. Following is a list of the awards:— THE CHAMPIONSHIPS. Draught Stock.—Entire: Mr. V. Aitkcnhead'a Lord Buchlyvie.
