POWER WORKS STRIKE.
SUPPLY TO BE RESTRICTED. EXTENDING UNEMPLOYMENT. A, and N.Z. MELBOURNE, Dec. 1.5. The serious effects of the strike at the State Electricity Commission's works at l r alburn are now emphasised. Owing to the restrictions on this use of electricity, which will come into force on Monday, factories in the Metropolitan area will have to be closed every second day, rendering unemployment greater than was at first expected. If the strike continues far into tho new year, fresh restrictions, probably limiting the use oi current for domestic purposes, will be introduced. Members of the Trades Hall Council and representatives of several unions, whose members are likely to suffer from the cutting off the supplies of electricity, conferred with the officials of the Electricity Commission, but failed to settle the dispute.
