TAKAPUNA TELEPHONES.
CHANGE TO AUTOMATIC. NON-ARRIVAL OF PLANT. On behalf of the residents of Belmont Mr. A. H. Wilkie recently applied to the Post and Telegraph Department for provision of a public slot telephone in the district. A reply has been sent by the district telegraph engineer stating the date for conversion of the telephones at Takapuna to the automatic system was still uncertain, owing to the non-arrival of certain essential apparatus, and until something definite was known on this point it was not considered desirable to erect telephone cabinets. However, definite action would be taken to provide the desired facilities in good time.
