AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE BUSINESS UNUSUALLY QUIET. Only a small number of sales was made on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, the market being more than usually quiet. There were a few slight alterations in rates for Government securities. War Loan, 1938, per cent., were available at £97, a reduction oi 2s 6d on Tuesday's quotation. Buyers ot Inscribed Stock, 1938 and 1939, 4|i per cent,, went back from £96 17s 6d to £96 15s at the third call. In commercial debentures New Zealand Breweries sold at 24s 6d, a reduction of 5d on last week's sale price. In banks there were offers of £7 for Nationals of New Zealand, sellers not quoting. New Zealands were done at 59s 3d, offers being then reduced to 595, sellers steady at 59s 6d. Closing rates for insurance shares were unchanged. In miscellaneous Colonial Sugars were in firm demand at £54 ss, sellers asking £55 10s. In mining Moanataiaris, contributing, agajn attracted the most attention. The market eased during the day from 5s and 4s 9d to 4s 7d and 4s 6d, sales being made at 5s to 4s 6d.
