MOTOR-BUS SERVICES.

Sir, —With reference, to (ho remarks of your correspondent, " City Ratepayer," in Wednesday's issue. By all means let the City Council "mind its own business," as he says. If in the past this had included leaving motor-bus companies alone it. would have been infinitely better for suburban districts, but the council must needs interfere. Thej destroy existing services, create impossible conditions, and then say the suburban districts must shift for themselves, and that it is not the duty of the council to provide transport facilities outside the city area. The Christclmreh Tramway Board report a loss of £12.000 for the half-year, and attribute the unfavourable result entirely to tho increase in the use of private motor-cars. I suppose soon we shall have them appealing for legislation to restrict the use of private motor-cars on tram route's. They could plead the motor bus regulations as a precedent. next thing will lie the " communistic bus,'! people cannot all own private motor-cars, but they can club together and run their own motor-buses. And this is what will happen. SuismtßANiric.
