THEFT OF MONEY ADMITTED

Chi&'ged with the theft of sums of money, totaling £99 4s 9d, the property of the New Zealand Government, Eric Charles Rose, -a clerk until recently emploved at the ctffice of the Terrace Prison, appeared before Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day. Evidence was given by JoJm Down, superintendent of the prison, the t the accused itn the course of his duties had to handle certain accounts. Witness discovered defalcations a.ud taxed Rose with having stolen the money. Rose admitted this. A Detective Holmes read a statement made by the accuafcd in whach lie again ntb mitted misappropriating the money. Rose also statad that he stole in the first instance with a view to helping a friendAccused, wl*? pleaded • guilty, was committed to the Supreme Court- for sentence, Bail of £2OO and one surety of £2OO was renewed.
