CRIME IN JAVA.
MURDER OF MRS. MacFlE GOVERNOR REFUSES CLEMENCY. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. WEL.TEVK.EDEN (Java), Dec. 13. The Governor-General has refused to grant the petition for mercy presented by Entjini, one of the murderers of Mrs. MacFie, of Sydney, who was • sentenced to death for the crime. , Mrs. Mac Fie, who was the wife of the Consul for Spain, Mr, H. C. Mac Fie, of Sydney, arrived at Weitevreden on September 13 last year and went to stay at a village hotel in Garoet, a small health resort. She had dinner in the hotel that evening, after which nothing was seen of her. The hotel manager on the following afternoon knocked at the door of Mrs. MacFie's room. He received no answer. On forcing an entry to the room the manager found the dead body of Mrs. Mac Fie in bed with severe wounds in the throat and arms. Later two of the hotel boys, Entjim and Reuben Eachmen, were charged with the murder and confessed that they stabbed Mrs. Mac Fie in her sleep, intending to rob her. Rachmen was sentence,d to imprisonment for life and Entjim sentenced to death.
