POWER STRIKE THREAT.
WORKS AT MELBOURNE. GRAVE EFFECT ON INDUSTRY. A. and NJS. MELBOURNE. Dec. 14. The dispute at the State Electricity Commission's 'works at Yallourn has assumed a serious aspect. Following the failure of the attempt by the Trades Hall Council to persuade the strikers to resume duties, active preparation is being made in Melbourne to meet the position which will arise when the main/Yallourn power house is closed at the end of the week. The position is causing grave concern to industrial organisations, as it is estimated that 25,000 workers will be immediately affected. Altogether 75 per cent, of the workers in Victoria are dependent upon electricity for employment, and fears are felt that the majority of these will be idle if the dispute continues.
