DOBSON MINE TRAGEDY.

WORKINGS NOW FLOODED. •CHANGE m THE «TOWNSHIP« r j [by teuegiuph.—pbess .association.] GREYMOUTH, Tuesday. The swollen state of the Grey River last night necessitated the removal of tho electric pumps out of the reach o£ the flood and it was then decided to discontinue the pumping of water into the Dobson mine. The whole of the works are now practically flooded. As far as can be ascertained, tho matter of unwatering the mine for the purpose of recovering the bodies of the five entombed men is now entirely in the hands of the Government and it is understood that an order has been cabled to England for special pumping machinery. Tito windows of the mine buildings, which were shattered by tho explosions, have been boarded up, indicating that the mine will remain idle for some time. There is a marked change in the appearance of the township s which is practically deserted during the daytime, the whole of the married men having found temporary employment. Many of the other miners have left for other places. The relief fund now totals £551. A donation of five guineas towards the Dobson Mine Disaster Relief Fund was made by tho Mount Albert Borough Council last evening. A subscription list was forwarded by the Relief Fund Committee. "It is a most deserving object," said Mr. W. G. Russell, and it was decided to head the list before placing it in the council's office for private donations.
