ferry Landing-stages. The' Northcote Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. C. A. Deuxberry, presiding. The waterworks engineer reported that 2,057,000 gallons of water had been used during the past month, and the level of Lake Takapuna had risen 2|in. It was decided to notify the Birkenhead and Northcote Gas Company that gas street lighting would be discontinued from next Monday. . The secretary of the Marine Boroughs' Association wrote stating the suggestion for floating landing-stages at all the ferry wharves would be placed before the association. The Devonport Borough Council approached the Auckland Harbour Board on the subject when the plans for the new Devonport wharf were under consideration. The board then advised that it was impossible to construct floating stages at the Auckland ferry tee owing to there being insufficient space available, and that the policy of the board was to instal electrically-operated gangways 12ft, wide. The Birkenhead and Northcote Gas Company was granted permission to lay its main under the footpath on the east side, of Queen Street, in view of the contemplated paving in concrete of main roadway, tenders for which doss next Tuesday. Support was given to the suggested appointment of a district transport committee for the control of tramway and omnibus traffic in the area surrounding Auckland, failing which the opinion was expressed that a transport board for the North Shore boroughs should be set up, the constitution of Takapuna, Borough as the No. 2 licensing area being deemed anomalous. Matters in connection with the sewerage system were taken in committee, the engineer, Mr. F. E. Powell, being in attendance.
