[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WANGANUI, Tuesday. The Auckland Cup candidate Mask is getting through his preparation in good style and promises to strip very fit on Boxing Day. On Thursday morning, with a light-weight in the saddle, he ran a mile in lm 42 4-5s and did it well. He ran the half-mile in 51s and the last six furlongs in lm 16 l-ss. The Limond gelding finished up his task in good style. . Lysander and The Thorn were companions in a six-furlong spin, both bieing ridden by light-weights. The Thorn had considerably the best of the jump-off, but the bay colt was soon up with_ him and was two lengths clear at the finish, the time being lm 15 2-ss. He _ was on the outer and wido out, so that it was a good gallop for the three-year-old. Tho Thorn is looking all the better for his race at Feilding, but is still a bit on the lusty side. He should be in great fettle after a few winding-up gallops, and will be hard to beat in his engagements at Ellerslie, especially on the tnird and fourth days. It has not yet been decided whether Civility will race at Ellerslie or Awapuni, hut wherever she runs she i 3 likely to give a good account of herself. She went six. furlongs on Thursday in company with Star Area and ran the distance in lm 14 l-ss—a brilliant effort. The bay inaro was shod and could have done better if required. Diamond Ring is to do the Taranaki Christmas... meetings. She has improved greatly in appearance as a result of her recent spell, and by holiday time should be ready to show something like heir best form. Allowaz is an improving sort and the son of Limond—Admyra will probably not bo Long in winning another race or two. He shapes like one that should run out a mile and a-half well, and he will be worth watching in his engagements at Ellerslie. J. Hay intends doing the Taranaki Christmas meetings with Diamond Ring and Halgina. The latter has been responsible for some good work both on the flat and over the sticks recently, and if he runs up to that he should win a race or two during the holidays. W. H. Dwyer will take Star Area, Great Day, Limosa, and Paletta to Awapuni. Tho first-named is in splendid fettle and it will be surprising if bs does not win a race soon. Great Day is coming along nicely, while Limosa is also shaping well. Tho two-year-old Thaw is moving along nicely and may show at Ellerslie that he is not far behind the "host t>f his age. Glenross is engaged in the Marton Cup, and on Feilding form will be one of the most-fancied candidates if he goes to the post. Last autumn Ohui, the sister to Tamatete and Tukia, promised to do well in her races, but contracted a very bad cold, and she has not raced since. She will be seen out again at the Marton meeting.
