MARKETING OF PIGS.

A CO-OPERATIVE SCHEME. PROPOSALS IN WAIKATO. [BX TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT,] HAMILTON, Monday. A further step toward the establishment of the proposed co-operative pig marketing scheme in the Waikato was made to-day when representatives of cooperative dairy companies considered a. tentative scheme brought forward by Mr. S. H. Judd, of Cambridge, who presided at the meeting. Mr. Judd said that as a result of the meeting held on December 3 it was agreed that the killing of the pigs could be satisfactorily carried out at Horotiu by the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company. The marketing of the exportable pigs would finance itself and the chief problem which arose was the disposal of the percentage of unexportable pigs. To deal with these, Air. Judd outlined four alternative schemes. They were: (1) To enter into a contract with a bacon company to take the carcases; (2) to sell in lots as opportunity offered within New Zealand; (3) to enter into a contract with a local curer, and when cured the pigs could be returned to owners for disposal, sold to grocers, sold by auction, or exported; (4) if none of the other schemes proved practicable, advantage could be taken of the freezing company's offer to provide a curing chamber and turn the unexportable pigs into bacon. Mr. Judd then outlined the draft scheme for the establishment of an organisation which, he suggested, should be 1 called the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, Incorporated. The scheme provided that members should consist of any co-operative dairy company at present operating in Sonth Auckland, future members to be elected. The association would be conducted by an executive of three, to be elected every three yea?s, with a consultative member from the freezing company. The conditions proposed for the receipt of pigs included one that the owner of the pig should be a supplier to a co-operative - dairy company which was a member ot the association. The proposals also indicated that a reserve fund for making advances to suppliers and an insurance fund would bo established by means of small deductions. . Mr. Judd was congratulated on the comprehensive nature of his draft. It was decided to send copies to the dairy companies concerned and to invite suggestions. Those present were constituted a provisional executive committee. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. RULING RATES MAINTAINED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. | (Reed. 10.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 13.
