MAN STRUCK ON HEAD.

FINE OF £2 IMPOSED. INCIDENT IN BOARDING HOUSE. A fine of £2, with costs, was imposed on Richard John Knaggs (Mr. Elliott) in the Police Court yesterday on a charge cf assaulting Walter Bailey. Accused pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant Edwards said that on Saturday evening accused went to complainant's boarding house and „ entered without knocking. Complainant told him that he must knock in future. He came back later, and knocked and on being admitted went upstairs. After coming down he went away and finally came back a third time. Complainant opened the door and the reply he got was. to be struck on the head with a stick. Accused appeared to be in a stupid condition. Mit Elliott said accused had two friends boarding at complainant's house and they told him he could enter at any time without knocking. The Magistrate, Mr. Hunt: It is not a question of knocking at the door but of knocking a man on the head. Mr. Elliott said that when accused first entered the house complainant spoke to him in such a way as to impute that he Avas not a fit person to enter the house. Accused went away to get a parcel for his friend, and while away was offered drink. When he went back to complainant's house he was smarting under the imputation that he was a disreputable person. He stated that he struck complainant with his hand. Mr. Elliott added that he had known accused for many years and he had never been in any kind of trouble before.
