The present heavy rains have been welcomed by the Trentham trainers, for the grass tracks had become. very hard and although' tho tan track had been made up with a plentiful supply of sawdust it was not completely . satisfactory. Trainers were using the old winter grass track, which had been lightly harrowed, Degage stood only one searching gallop and she was put by again. She showed decided signs of lameness. Grand Knight,_ Nadarino and Pan tier are going on well in their work. It seemed fairly obvious that Grand Knight would not run in the Auckland Cup, bo that his withdrawal did not cause surprise. . C. Browne will ride Mr. Eric Riddiford's horses at Tauherenikau. Buoyant js especially marked for the Wairarapa Cup. Gauntlet has come to no harm since racing at Feilding and should Bhow up in hurdle races in Auckland. Kilmezzo ran two solid races at Woodville. He was perhaps a little unlucky "on the first day, but finished well on Thursday, just beating Polonaise on the post. Spode was made favourite for her raco at Woodville, ljut made no showing. She ha 3 not made much improvement fiom two years to three. Tanadeea was backed as unbeatable at Woodville, but although the track was to his liking he was never going like a dinner. If his form was correct his prospects at the holiday meetings are not bright. Axle was very jaded at most of his recent meetings, but he seemed to have brightened up considerably when paraded on the first day at Woodville. He bore thia out by winning the hurdle race. Star Ranger left last week for Ellerslie via Te Awamutu. He was not sighted in ' the Te Awamutu Cup on Saturday. Albert Goodman is improving Vexatious and the Thurnham mare should win a race during the Eolidays. The Te Aroha light-weight, C._ Davies, has been engaged to ride Diogenes in the Auckland, Cup providing the four-year-old is sent to Auckland, which is almost certain. THE DUNEDIN MEETING.
