TAURANGA INTERESTS.
WORK ON OTUMOETAI ROAD. SPORT DURINg WEEK-END. [by telegraph.—-own correspondent.] TAURANGA, Monday. At a meeting of Otumoetai ratepayers, held in regard to the apportionment of money for metalling various sections of Otumoetai Road, it was; decided that metalling be carried out at five places on the road. Members of the Tauranga Rifle Club fired a handicap match on Saturday. Rifleman A. Johnson, a young shot, made the top score. The results were as follow:—A. Johnson 115, R. Poole 113, A. Carswell 101, T. Floyd, 98, W. Poole 98. • The Tauranga Lawn Tennis Club held a combined handicap tournament on Saturday afternoon, when 40 players participated. A very interesting afternoon's tennis was enjoyed, several matches being closely contested. In the semi-finals Mountfort and Mrs. Henderson defeated Phelan und Miss C. Hall by 6 games to 4, and Pott and Miss Daiaes defeated Baker and Miss C. Baker with a similar score. In the final Pott and Miss Daines won their set by 6 games to 2 from Mountfort and Mrs. Henderson. The ladder matches have now commenced, _ Three rinks from the Tauranga Bowling Ciub journeyed io Te Puke last week and played in the series for the Butcher Cup. Two of the teams were beaten and the other secured a comfortable wis.
