NEW MILFORD SCHOOL.

OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY PROGRESS OF THE DISTRICT. A new primary school for Milford was officially opened on Saturday afternoon by Mr. A. Harris, M.P., in the presence of a large gathering of parents and pupils. A brief outline of the work done by the various members and bodies toward securing the school was given by Mr. J. Collins, chairman of the Takapuna School Committee. Special thanks, he stated, were due to Mr. Harris and to the Milford Ratepayers' Association. Mr. Harris said he considered the people of Milford were to be congratulated in having secured such a splendid site, and up-to-date building. As the building was .only designed to accommodate 176 children and the number had already been exceeded, the department would very soon consider taking in hand further addi- [ tions already provided for on the original plans. The site, which was purchased some years ago, cost £1450 and the buildi ing with appointments £3238. The progress of the district and the need for such a school was referred to by Mr. A. Burns, chairman of the Auckland Education Board. Nothing could stem the progress of such a fine district. The department was at present leasing 100 buildings throughout the Dominion, illustrating the number of buildings that needed to be erected. ■ Mr. W. H. Mathews, headmaster of the Milford School, said up to the present the school had shown wonderful promise, having attained a 98 per cent, efficiency. Other speakers were Mr. E. Lily, chairman of the Belmont School Committee, Mr. A. Warbrick, president of the Milford Ratepayers* Association, and Mr. J. Morison, Mayor of Takapuna. ,
