DESTRUCTION BY FIRE.

AN ENGINEERING SHOP. SPECTACULAR OUTBREAK. WHOLE STRUCTURE COLLAPSES, [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] DUNEDIN. Friday. What eventually became one of the fiercest and most spectacular fires seen in Dunedin for some time broke out at, 7.45 o'clock this evening in the pattern shop of the Dunedin Engineering and Steel Company, Limited, Willis Street: The building was a galvanised iron one of two storeys, the ground floor being used mostly for storing timber. The pattern-making shop was in the upper storey. Ln spite of the efforts of the fire brigade the fire raged until 9.30 o'clock, when the whole structure collapsed. The patterns burned, although not valuable intrinsically, will, cause a severe loss through the large amount of work which will be delayed. DAMAGE 15 TEE SUBURBS. EMPTY SHED DESTROYED. An outbreak of fire occurred in the ceiling of a five-roomed house at the corner of Church Street and Great North Road, Archhill, 'early yesterday afternoon. Ihe City Fire Brigade extinguished tho flames before any serious damage had been caused. The house is owned by the New Zealand Labour Party and occupied by Mr. S. R. Edwards. An empty shed at the roar of a h#us* at 2, Rocklands Avenue, off Dominion Road, occupied by Mr. J, G. Breen, was gutted by fire yesterday afternoon. Good work by tho Mount Eden Brigade prevented further damage.
