Never put bone or pearl handled knives or forks in water.
Nevor leave boxes of tea, coffee or spices open to the air, as they deteriorate rapidly in quality.
Keep ammonia, gasoline and other volatile substances tightly corked to avoid evaporation.
If you want to conserve soap do not let it lie in a wet dish or in the laundry water. Keep it in a dry place.
When making buttonholes on children's clothing it is a good plan to machine round the hole twice and then do the buttonhole stitching. This wears as long as the material.
When paint brushes have become hard through being neglected, boil them in vinegar for about a-quarter of an hour. The paint can then be scraped off quite easily. Finally clean in turpentine.
If your, deal kitchen table is discoloured, cut a lemon in half and rub over the top. Then rinse well with clean water. Treat rolling-pins and pasteboards in the same manner and they will be smooth and white.
After the last boiling of clothes dip in all household brooms and brushes while the water is still scalding, then dip them in a pail of cold water in which a tablespoonfuj, of alum has been dissolved. Stand in the open air to drain and dry. It doubles their lives.
Blunt scissors can be sharpened with the aid of a bright knitting needle Hold the steel needle, in the left hand .and the scissors in the right, and close the scissors as if to cut the needle in half. The needle will slide forward until it passes out of the blades. Repeat this action several times.
