TRAFFIC AT STATION.

NEW RAILWAY BY-LAWS. 'PREVENTING CONGESTION. Owing to the congestion and inconvenience brought about by vehicles using the entrances to tho Auckland railway station during rush hours the Railway Department has gazetted by-laws to overcome the difficulties. Railway officials state that considerable inconvenience has been caused to traffic owing to the fact that in many cases vehicles have been left standing, at the station entrance longer than necessary to allow passengers to alight. The en trances to the station from Queen Street are too narrow to permit of two-way traffic, and it has become necessary to prohibit the driving of vehicles direct from the station premises into Queen Street. The by-laws provide that the two approaches from Queen Street are to be used only as entrances to the station, the driving of vehicles from the station direct into Queen Street being prohibited. The' exit from the harbour side of the station will be via the short street connection between the station and Quay Street. This street must not be used as an entrance to the station. The exits from the city side of the station will be via Breakwater Road, and the street connections between the station and Customs Street. Vehicles will not be permitted to stand on the harbour side of the station longer than necessary to allow passengers to alight. Vehicles may stand on the city side of the station in allotted places, but must not be left unattended. • The space at the back of the post office will be reserved for postal vehicles.
