The average family's daily basket of provisions, including meat, vegetables, bread, coffeo, milk and butter, was the basis of an inquiry made by the Labour Of&cc of the League of Nations into the cost of living in the chief cities of the world. • Lodz, in Poland, was found to be the cheapest city with an average of 2s. Philadelphia was the dearest at 9s Id, Sydney was next with 8s Id. London, with a.n 3 average of 7s Id, is the eighth on the s list.
