AUCKLAND YACHTING.

COMBINED CRUISING RACES. THREE CLUBS TAKE PART. SOME VERY CLOSE FINISHES, Combined cruising and harbour ncea were held by the Ponsouby, Victoria and Richmond Cruising- Clubs on Saturday afternoon. The larger yachts and launches raced to Omiha. Waiheke. and ihe ISft. and under classes tried conclusions in the harbour, The weather conditions were favourable for yachting, a fresh bre«iQ from the south-west blowing all the afternoon. The various events were stairted from the dredge Maui, moored oil St. Mary's Bay. Ihe course for the cruising races was from starling lino theneo direct, to Omiha. Good entries were received by the various clubs ana some very close finishes were recorded, the officials in charge of the racing were: otarter, Mr. A. J Coiliugti; judge, harbour races, Mr. B. Culhsme; timekeepers, Mesa-fs. O. Johnson. H. Crovrl and A. J. ColHnss; judse, cruising races, Mr. W J. Matthows: timekeepers, Messrs. G Stephens, acd A, Perkins. On Saturday evening: a social and dance was held m the halt at Omiha. Details of the racing are as follow: THE KEEL YACHTS. TiiO keel yachts were ssr.t awav at 2.30 p.m., A lex a crossing the lino first, closely tollowed by Kansi, Maybelle and Cooee; then came Wairiki. Moutere and Little Jim, Little Jim gradually worked her way into the lead, and was doing exceptionally well when she blew out her spinnaker. Tho finishing times were: Little Jim. The start of classes H. I and N was ft good one. Winifred got tho best of it and was clonely followed by Waiter© 11., Awatore., and Starlight, and Spray; then came Mistletoe, Why Not and Waiapu. Watteio 11. passed Winifred on the run down tha harlwur, and when near Kind's Wharf Waitere 11. and Awatore had a Infirm; match. Awaterii took tho lead at North Head and was the first 20-footer to' finish. Tho times were: Awatere, 4h 42m 40s; Starlight. 4h 45m 53#Waiters IT., 4h 46m 30s; Spray. 4h 46m 50s; Mistletoe, 4h 48m 80s; Why Not, 5h -lira 2&s; Winifred, 41:. 60m 555; Waiapu, 5h 15m Ms. Class L was tent away. 10 minutes efts? Oafs If and brought out 1,0 competitors. Kokiri crossed tho line at gvjtifiro and nest to her came Forest Gold. IVfarere, Rakoa, IJouen, Hnia t Mcnvai, Ni;aru 11., and Love* light in that order, all close except Lovelight. The competitors in the race for launches were Kowhai, Kathryn R., My Girl, Kirita, and Automatic- The boats crossed the line in t!ao order named, bat they had not gone very far before My Girl toon tha lead, followed by Kathryn B, The finishing timea were:—My Girl, 4h 12m 375; Kathryn R., 4h i!7m 85s; Kirita, 4h 45m 455; Kowhai, 5h !!7m 41 s. THE HAKBOUR EVENTS. Class M (18ft. patikis) was sent away with Class V. Maneno got the best of Ht-ti'is start; and was followed closely by Surprise. Drone, Matarere, Mischief, Solace, Wild Wave, Mollie and Mawhiti. Maneno continued he.r lead to the mark in Shoal Bay, the order rounding this buoy boirvg: —• Manene. Matarere, Mollie, Surprise, Mawhiti, Mischief, Drone and Wild Wave. When tho boats made their way down the harbour from the Bona buoy Matarere was holding the leading position, while Mawhiti did bo well that she passed all except Matarere. Passing tho tide deflector buoy for tho second time the order was:—Matarer®, Mawhiti (Mftnene, Mollie, Surprise, Mischief, Drone, Wild Wave and Solace, Matame continued her lead on tho second round. Mawhiti and Mnnene made is, close race of it and finally Manone caught and passed Mawhiti. Sett Sleigh crossed tho line at gunfire and cloao on her stern came Atanstatai, Nnmu, Rival, Tulip, Ben Bolt, Swift* sure, and Rio and Ben Macree, Namu soon overhauled the leaders and once m command was never headed, finishing well ahead of her rivals. The finishing times were:—Namu, ih 17m 595; Rival, 4h 21m 475; Ataneratai, 4h 2'2m; Ben Bolt, 4h 23m sb; Sea Sleigh, 4h 28m 10 s: Swiftaure, 4h 24in 445; Lancia, 4h 24m 57a; Rio, 4h 25in 503; Tulip, 4h 28im 2a; Ben Macree, 4b 29m 80s. THE 14-FOOTEIiS. Only Alerte and Sea Glioma started on time in the race for class Y. Venus was 15m late and Why Not 20m late and after going a certain distance they both gave up. There was very little between Alerte and Sea Gnome, but the former was a" little too good on the day for her opponent. The finishing times were:- Alerts. 4h 2S?m 9s; Sea Gnome. 4h 29m 7s. • The combined rnce for classes T and a brought out IX competitors, which were lim over the lino by Miami], closely followed by Ngaio Resolute, Ron a, Marie, Nyria. Meteor, Kismet, Hapuka, and Mann. It was; a race to tho first mark, and Bona ■ quickly assumed t-be lead. Nyrir, followed, a,ml a few lengths astern Mane, M ispf.li. Resolute and Kismet were* close together. Ttona and Nyria drew siway from - tho others on the lead to the buoy in Shoal Bay, and although Nyria pressed Bona in the first round the latter bad matters her own way in the second. Of the others Nfgaio, Kismet and Mario woro the most preminent. Gin, one-design class, wnicn was postponed on November 27 owing to unfavourable weather, was sailed on Saturday over this club'a usual course. The officers fox toe day were: Messrs. H. Bach, «J. leters, 1, Edsfion and If. G. Carr. Kitty got the best of the start a:*d wp closely followed over the line by ifyrth, Frolic, Comic and Lai Lai.
