STOLE A MAIL BAG.
OFFENCE AT CHRISTCHURCH. THREE YEARS* PROBATION. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCHTJRCHt Saturday. A postal messenger, William Roy Mills, who pleaded guilty to the theft of a mail bag at Christchnrch on December 2, appeared in the Supreme Court before Mr. Justice Stringer to-day for sentence. He was admitted to probation for three years and ordered to make restitution of £8 15s within a month. "Postal offences are very serious and there have been a good many lately," said the judge when Mr. Amodeo asked for probation for accused. "I have dealt with two or three cases myself lately, but I am very loth to send a young man like this to prison or to a Borstal institute,"
