MR. COATES' PLANS.

A VISIT TO FRANCE. RETURNS IN JANUARYA. and N.Z. LONDON, Dec. 2. , The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr. J. G. Coates, will probably leave England for New Zealand during the first week in January. Meanwhile he is prosecuting inquiries into economies in tho use of fuel on rail ways, which may be adaptable to New Zealand conditions. He will go to France next week, to visit the battlefields. He will there unveil several New Zealand memorials. While Mr. Coates is in Paris he is to present to the French Rugby Federation a shield, given by the Maoris. Later he will visit Ireland, where he will receive an honorary Doctorate of Laws at Dublin University.
