"FESTIVAL OF FLOWERS."

MARY'S. .The ''Festival of Flovrers and Trees" organised by the iadies of St. Mary's parish, in aid of the Mile of Shillings Fund, was opened in the church hall yesterday afternoon by Mr, D. Hay, a senior member of St. Mary's vestry. In congratulating those concerned on the arrangement of the decorations Mr. Eay, who acted as judge of • the floral competitions, i said he considered that in spite of on favourable weather the display of flowers-j was almost perfect. Particularly pleas ( ing were the exhibits by the young people. Competitions were chiefly fir table decorations and vases of flowers, giving the hall a colourful appearance. The decorated tables in particular called for special mention, and some artistic arrangements were presented. There were some especially fine carnations, but flowers in other classes were also well represented. Much ingenuity and artistry had been employed in introducing unusual ideas into the decorations. On each side oi the hall behind the rows of pillars were stalls surmounted by arches, each descriptive of the wares beneath. The festival will be concluded this afternoon, when a special feature will be a Christmas tree for children. The proframm© of floral dances presented yesteray afternoon by children of the Sunday school will be repeated.
