NEWCASTLE CRANE-DRIVERS.

STRIKE SETTLEMENT REACHED.

M. Baddeley. The men will resume work to-morrow. The terms of the settlement will be presented at a meeting of the men tonight for ratification. As a result' of the strike thero is a ffionsiderable congestion of overseas steamers at Sydney, as a number of them usually proceed to Newcastle for bupkers. ' ■ . ' '■ . Until the cessation" of the strike the vessels will have to coal at Sydney. Practically alii the coal which is used for bunkering purposes in Sydney, comes from mines on (,he south coast, which are not affected by the coal-workers' strike.

WHARF LABOURERS' ACTION. CAUSE OF ' BITTER ARGUMENT. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. Deo. 2. At a meeting of the marine transport group of unions yesterday the members considered the serious position which has arisen throughout the Commonwealth as a result of the waterside workers' overtime strike. The action of the wharf labourers was the subject of bitter argument. t The seamen stated that they would have to iorefeit a large sum ; of money, which their union had handed to the ■lndustrial Commissioner, when it was granted re-registration, as a guarantee that they would not take part in any strike. The meeting was adjourned until Monday,'when the whole matter will be referred to the Federal Disputes Committee. No change in the situation is anticipated during the week-end.

COAL,-WORKERS' DISPUTE.

OUTLOOK MORE HOPEFUL. A. and N.Z. 1 MELBOURNE, Dec. 2. The outlook is now more hopeful ' as regards the Yallourn strike of coalworkers in the power-house. An informal conference was held at the Arbitration Court between Judge Lukin a»d representatives of the Australian Workers' Union. Representative of the Electricity Commission were also present. The Judge urged the representatives of the uniora- to try.and .induce the men to resume work without making further trouble, and after discussion they agreed to do so. s. _ *
