MINISTER TO WASHINGTON.

AUSTRALIAN PROPOSAL. SIR HUGH DENISON'S RANK. ALTERATION CONTEMPLATED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received 3.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. Nov. 16. The Washington correspondent of the New York Times states that according to information from authoritative quarters the Australian Commissioner to the United States, Sir Hugh Denison. is to be made Minister from Australia to the United States within three months. Sir Hugh's change in rank will probably be accomplished when the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. S. M> Bruce, leaches America en route for Australia from the Imperial Conference. If, however. Mr. Bruce is forced to cancel his American trip some other suitable occasion will be selected for the announcement. The decision may emphasise the importance of closer relationship between the two English-speaking countries ol the Pacific. The New York World will state tomorrow "Australia will follow the course of Canada in appointing a Minister to the United States from Australia. There is a strong and constantly growing sentiment that the peace of the Pacific can be preserved better by the acknowledged friendship between the great island Dominion and the United States. The presence of a full-fledged Minister Plenipotentiary in this country will be a further affirmation of this conviction. With a Minister here Australia will not find it necessary to exchange views with the United States on matters concerning the two Governments through an intermediary.
