BOROUGH OF TAKAPUNA.

WATER FOR FIRE-FIGHTING.

The Takapuna Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. D. Morison, presiding. An application for a water service gave rise to a general discussion of the fire protection question and the smallness of the pipes m side-streets. Instructions were given to the borough engineer to report to next meeting as to the most urgent works required in respect of water supply, with particular reference to fire lighting requirements. A report was feceived from the borough engineer to the effect that satisfactory arrangements had been made with the Auckland Harbour Board in the matter of the float-tests in connection with the Takapuna sewage outfall system. Authority was given for the provision of sanitary conveniences at three points On Milford Beach and one on Takapuna Beach, at an estimated cost of £l3l. Permits for the erection of nine new buildings and additions to two existing structures wefe granted, the estimated expenditure bieng £10,380. A grant of £2O was made toward the Bayswater library. On the question of housing the Milford Surf Club it was agreed to offer the club the use of a site for its club-room and look-out on the council's reserve on Milford Beach. An intimation being received h'ora the Public Works Department that the warrant for construction of Sheriff's Bridge is about to be gazetted, authority was given to the engineer to invite- tenders as soon as the authority is published. A resolution of condolence was passed with the widow and family of the late Mr. C. M. Carter, at one time a member of the council.
