OBITUARY.

MR. GEORGE YOUNG. [BI TELBQRAPH.--OWN COBBESPON DEKT.] OPOTIEI, Wednwday. The funeral of the late Mr. George Young, who died on Sunday, aged 02 years, took place at the Opotiki' Cem«» tery yesterday afternoon, a large nombe? of mourners being present. Mr. Young was bofn in County Sligo, Ireland, in 1854, and came to Auckland in 1862. Shortly after he landed trouble with the Maoris started and he joined the Waikato troops, with whom he travel* led from one part of the North Island i to another, finally being stationed in Tauranga for some time. He came to Opotiki in 1864, Air. Young could recount many interesting adventures in which he took part, one relating to an engagement which took place near Wai* nana. Mrs. Young died 26 years ago. Mr. Young is survived by four sons and three daughters. There are 15 grandchildren. MB. WALTER HILL. [BV TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHUECH. Wednesday. Mr. Walter Hill, a well-known citizen of Christchurch, died early this morning after an illness lasting only a few days. Last Wednesday Mr. Hill attended the races at Riccarton and while descending the, step 3 from the grandstand slipped ana fell, his head striking one of the concrete steps. Although"very seriously hurt'by the fall Mr. Hill was able to rise to his feet and walk to his car in which he w&s driven to his home. Later he lapsed into Mmi-consciousness from which he never recovered. On Monday he was taken to the Lewisham Hospital where an urgent operation was pWformed and it was found that he was suffering from hemorrhage of the brain. Mr, Hill was very well known throughout New Zealand as a wool buyer for the past 56 years. He was one of the founders of the Wool Buyers" Association and was the Chairman of the association up to the time of his death. He was chairman of the Christchurch Drainage Board continuously since February, 1907. Mr. Hill, who "was 66 years of age, is survived by his wife and two sons.
