TEETH OF CHILDREN.

FACILITIES AT CLINICS.

THE LESS FAVOURED DISTRICTS.

With a view to helping schools not having a dental clinic, the Auckland Primary School Committees' Association recently passed the following resolution: "That when the visiting doctor at the schools recommends dental attention to the children, and the district is not served by a dental clinic, the Education Department should bear half the cost of the treatment.'"* When the resolution came before the Auckland Education Board yesterday the chairman, Mr. A. Burns,-moved that it be referred to the department: V Mr. R. Hoe said he thought the board should recommend' favourable consideration of the question. The Work was one Of the most valuablo that could be rendered to children. If it was a question- of finance he was"-in favour of less money being spent on sports for the children and more on tl»eir medical needs. Mr. H. S. W. King expressed doubt whether the department would do anything in the matter. It could not accept responsibility. for the well-being of the children. • «■'

Mr. Burns said the question resolved itself into the department either forming clinics at schools or supplying part of the cost of dental needs. It was for the department to decide, but there was no harm in recommending favourable consideration. This course was adopted.
