THE METHODIST HOMES.
CHILDREN'S DEMONSTRATION VALUE OF THE INSTITUTIONS. A practical demonstration of the good work being" done by the Methodist Children's Homes and Orphanages will be provided in the Town Hall this evening, when 110 children whose lives have been brightened by the care bestowed on them by the church authorities will hold their annual festival. The children will appear in marches, action songs and tableaux, and the Rev. W. Rrady will give an address. That the homes and orphanages are fulfilling a usefuli purpose is revealed in the annual report which was presented to the board recently. The homes i§t Mount Albert and Epsom are all full, and applications for admission have had to be declined owing to lack of room. The children are being brought up along proper lines by an efficient staff, whiach is at times faced with hard work in equipping the children for useful lives. The children are all very happy and some fine young men and women who have left the homes are now "making good" in their life work in the city. In the report special mention is made of the valuable assistance given the homes annually by the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association and also the numerous other subscribers, including several well-known business firms. Every assistance is needed, for last year the expenditure was £SOOO. The capital account has been augmented by various legacies during the year and official intimation has been received that there are other sums to come. These will all be needed to meet the balance of the payment for the Epsom Hotae. The ladies' committee, with Mrs. A. C. Caugbey as president, has done good work during the year, and preparations are now being mads by them for the usual Christmas festivities.
